aNYa blogs: "Ratan Tata - E&Y entrepreneur 2003

Ratan Tata is India's Ernst & Young entrepreneur of the year 2003. The award is well deserved no doubt. Though I cannot guage why this year? Probably cos the Indica/Indigo is doing so well, and the Tatas are planning exports and everything. Anyways .. thats not the point, today I dont want to talk about the Tatas (no offense). I just want to share a story about another entrepreneur, the biggest of his kind - Dhirubhai Ambani. I have heard a bit of comparison being done between the two. The Tatas somehow command more respect, they 'feel' more aristocratic. That may be to the fact that the Ambanis have never sported the 'clean' tag unlike the Tatas. Reliance has had its share of controversies, more so during the License Raj. On the other hand the Tatas have rarely if ever been involved in anything similar.
I am not belittling the achievement of Dhirubhai mind you. To rise from working at a petrol station in Eden, Yemen to being the chairman of India's largest corporation is dizzying. One of my favourite stories about Dhirubhai is that when he was in Eden. During the 1950s the Yemeni administration discovered that the main unit of its currency, the rial, was disappearing from the market. The administration traced the shortage to Eden, a port in Yemen and found to its surprise that a young Indian in his twenties had placed an unlimited buy order for rials. The rial was a solid silver coin and what this young man did was to simply buy rials, melt them into silver ingots and sell them to bullion dealers in London. This was a profitable venture as the silver in the rial was valued higher by bullion dealers in London. The name of the young man? Dhirubhai Ambani. "

I like the Google calculator
I like the new Google Calculator, especially because Safari has the Google search field always visible and ready for use. For example, I just needed to computer how long it would take in hours to transfer 50 gigabytes of data at 3 megabytes per second: the result is here.

Hey ppl,

Heres a mail that one of the prospective students (Praveen Kumar) to UMBC posted our Yahoogroups ( which includes not less than 40 girls)......ive picked out the golden statements from each one of em........read on its fuckin funny

Hi,
Thanks for the replies(tushar and naresh). I am
really amazed by the speed at which my queries were
answered. As Naresh suggested to get different colored underwears I have already got all black underwears. Also I was actually looking for roomies and I would like to have a roomie who gets undies with color other than black.
And tushar u told me to get 15 underwears and
banians but I think that would be very expensive. I
think I can manage with 8. In the worst case I can
wear it inside out. That is what I usually do when I go on long trips in India. Keep up the good work
seniors !!!

Regards,
Praveen Kumar
On a subsequent email...this is wat he writes....

hi seniors

Pranam thanks for the reply but I was not joking. I really came to know that you can get AIDS if you wear some other peoples underwears.
Now the real part of comming to USA. So just wanted to know what are the places we could go. How is the night life in Baltimore. Are there areas where young boys and girls spend some good time as shown in
movies(you know). i am sure there must be such places and u must have been there.

By the way guys i am a huge fan of BAYWATCH especially Pamella Anderson(u know why). Are there any good beaches in MAryland and if so can EKTA arrange a visit to any beach. I am dying to check out chicks in Bikinis. heheheh... By the way how is crowd in UMBC, I mean the Indian crowd. I am pretty sure you guys have a great time out there. I am dying to socialise as it is pretty difficult to do these things in india.

Praveen.

It is coming pretty soon.A matter of just 3-4 of months.Me too waiting desperately for that.Nebody else looking forward to it?

Yea...It was a terrific experience... "once in a lifetime". Saw God and DC(Coulthard)'s eyes thru their helmets for a split second. The sound is earth shattering. One can hear the sound almost a km away. It is going to ring in my ears for sometime now. Had to buy earplugs:) JPM(Montoya) impressed me the most. He is bound to be the nxt big thing. Absolutely RASH. The way he pushes the throttle...just too good to describe. Was at a location after a hairpin....so cud see cars gearing up from 60Ks to 250Ks.

Managed to get an autograph of Takuma Sato...who featured in the 2002 edition with Jordan....now with BAR-Honda. Took a close snap with the F2000 winning Ferrari Championship model. Also some snaps with the pit-lane babes:)

answering raje's question and more....if u watch the matrix again...u will see that the oracle says to neo - " no son, not in this life maybe in ur next life". the bullet hits him and the no believing part of him is killed...but the believing part gets a new life and that is when he believes in the fact that he is the one. neo is just a computer hacker who has realised that he is the one. being the one is like being a top hacker...infact much more than that. flashback to the scene when morpheus says to neo - the matrix is just a computer program, it works on rules, but u have to remember that just like a computer program these rules can be bended.... some .....can be broken. so neo basically realises the fact that he can break the rules of the matrix because now he "knows" that he is the one.

Saturday, April 26, 2003

No that most certainly wasn't what i meant. The reference was to the movie. Speaking of movies saw Malibu's... and Identity today.
Malibu is funny in bits sometimes really so. Identity is nice and taut almost had me scared.

Friday, April 25, 2003

saw Dogma. Definitely nice but could have done a better job of the script. Also 'god' rocks.

There are a lot of good articles on Sachin..in fact one which i liked the best was on his hunger for runs increasing in these later years ...but the best part was...this was posted on a Pakistani site....Really liked that....:-)

Thursday, April 24, 2003

Yeah....reviving memories of Sharjah :-)

Its B day for aapla Sachin. Happy b'day "GOD"

I agree vaibhav ..... Hallowed Be Thy Name .... GREATEST ever !!!

One possible solution that i read somewhere: The brain does not die immediately when heart and respiration stops. Neo was almost the One, he'd not been affected by the first bullet, until he saw his blood. So, his mind was almost to the point of disbelieving the illusion of the matrix -- that he should be injured by bullets. He could feel Trinity's kiss or hear her words, somehow, which reminded him that the matrix was not real.
Or perhaps it was just a coincidence, and he would have come around on his own anyway.

Cos 'tis the kiss of love. Raje pray not be such a fathead

The Burly Brawl(One betwn Neo and Smith's Clones ) scene is simply FABULOUS...TOO MUCH

Whoa!!!
Seems to be another great one coming...:-)

u want to know the storyline of the matrix - well i can give u details abt what the story is , how it begins to how it ends too. but i will give u just the beginning and the end.
beginning - neo is dreaming abt trinity falling from a building. this is neo's dream which proclaim a dark fate for trinity. so when u see that scene in the trailer when trinity is falling from the window while shooting the agent - that is it!

the ending is very abrupt and makes one feel that the movie shud have gone a little farther than that. i will not reveal the ending because it is a very open ending, it asks questions abt neo, the matrix and the very existence of mankind in zion. remember that reloaded and revolutions are one movie cut into 2 parts - so look out for the trailer of revolutions that will follow the reloaded movie in theaters. it is said that the revolutions will answer all the questions posed and some more. so basically look forward to a roller coaster ride in the matrix reloaded.

Well, The Matrix Final Theatrical is amazing...I cant wait to see the movie...

Nebody has ne clues bt the storyline...I know taht Neo is infected by some virus in the movie...nothin except for that..

And all ye Adam Sandler detractors, you might want to see Punch Drunk Love. It's not for every movie that a whole audi gets to its feet clapping.

Raje I disagree(surprise!). I don't think ash is vulgar at any rate no more than your muse who incidentally has a voice you could grate carrots with. I don't buy the whole ice maiden argument. She looks stunning. So maybe she's not the girl next door. I am just ogling here not marrying her. Big diff. methinks

I am here missed the first email.

californian weather....i want that kind of weather...milap can we switch places.....;)

Monday, April 07, 2003

guess what? it is snowing in philadelphia!!! it is really horrible.....philadelphia had the worst winter in years ...and after that we have snow in april! i am still longing for a little sunshine.

Saturday, April 05, 2003

what spring? philadelphia is still having a low of something like 1 degree. ya...spring days are few and far in between. people here havent thrown their winter coats yet. i hope the sun really starts shining sometime soon. i am bored with the dull gloomy weather here. one thing i agree with rishi though, the trees do seem to bloom overnite.

I agree...it indeed is fabulous

still awake...doing nothing....so i thought i wud post something. do u guys follow the matrix...because if u do u shud check out theses sites that are an absolute must-watch. 1. www.thelastfreecity.com
2. matrixfans.net

i guess everyone knows abt the matrix official site - whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com
and the kind of publicity that has been going on can only be followed online....there is hardly any publicity via the idiot box. so get online and get to know the truth behind the matrix.

knock, knock neo. ...follow the white rabbit.

just watching ace ventura....(with due apologies to rishi that i have brought in this topic into this blog) and cudnt help wondering how amazingly funny jim carrey is on both the ace ventura films.

sorry rishi, just wanted to do this.....
vilas

chicago sucks on the storyline...it is just the way the story is told that makes it worth the time spent. and yes....the song sequence in the jail was really the high point for me. the other thing was the way catherine zeta jones really gives the songs life.......there is the first song of the movie where renee zelweger is watching catherine sing and imagines herself to be the singer....that scene really says how different their voices are and how amazingly terrific catherine's voice really is. in comparison, renee's voice is something like a shriek.!!!!!!!

well....it was some technical problems that caused my late entry into the bolg....sorry for the delay. all is fine now.

Friday, April 04, 2003

Heard that Gangs of New York is not so great

Thursday, April 03, 2003

catherine has sung na? nicole kidman did a good job singing in moulin r..
and are the 2 even close, other than that both are connected with show business? mr is a total love story, chicago seemed like a legal thriller types from the trailer

Saturday, March 29, 2003

Hi all

Now i have customized our old page with author name appearing..
Hope all fine now...

Though the page has a bit sober look.....its still cool!

Hi,
I have used a diff web page this time..This one does show the names of who has written the blogs.
Tell me if u like this one...else we can change it always ;-)

Also vishy being comps guy is news to me ...

Friday, March 28, 2003

hey guys,
If u click on the web page mode....u dont get to see the names. The normal posting mode allows one to see the names and the time they posted it.
Regardin this compsguy...I have always had the feelin tht he's some *Californian*....so I m a bit surprised to know its vishy...

as for comps2002, there were many comps guy(s), so vishy may be one of them, but was he the ORIGINAL ??? :-)

hi manish, i think u get the name of the person too who said it along with what he said, but the particular format which sonz has selected doesnt support it, so in case he changes the format, i guess we should see the names also in old blogs !

isn't it common knowledge that it was vishy? i thought everyone knew that

the problem with reading old blogs and trying to get into the conversation is that you have no clue about who
said what... just a long list of msgs without any names

I dont know...Thuks once claimed he knows who it is...Please enlighten us...

hey rupesh,

in case u r reading this, its high time now that u admit u r the ONE :-)

Thursday, March 27, 2003

Hey thuks,appy,hrithik...we have one more member :-)
Great going.

On a more serious note...yup..u heard it right..

I am posting a email sent to us by manish and would like ppl giving their opinions..if they have any...
I do have one ...that I am against this foolish WAR (or should i say attack on Iraq)

All right, let me see if I understand the logic of this correctly.
